What is CBD?
The cannabidiol (CBD) is a molecule extracted from the cannabis plant. What you must understand with CBD, is that cannabis is constituted of several molecules : cannabinoïdes. The most common is delta-9-tétrahydrocannabinol or THC, sought after for its psychoactive effects.
Unlike THC, CBD has no psychoactive effects. However, it has a relaxing effect (rather muscular), which can be very marked depending on the concentration of CBD in the base substance. Unlike THC? it is not addictive, and even reduces its effects on the nervous system. CBD is therefore never a substitute for THC.
What are its effects ?
Since it has no psychoactive properties, CBD is increasingly used in medical settings for its relaxing, anxiolytic and antidepressant effects. Cannabidiol works in the opposite direction to THC, which can cause symptoms of depression or even paranoia if overused, by acting on the system responsible for happiness. This molecule also has a strong influence on the brain's pain system, blocking certain receptors and thus greatly attenuating the sensation of pain.
CBD also has anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities and, according to this study, may even help to combat or reduce certain very serious illnesses. This has yet to be scientifically proven, of course, but the molecule is being studied in many countries in the hope of providing a treatment for numerous pathologies (including cancer).
For those who still want to learn more about the medical side of CBD, you can consult this link in French.
Is CBD legal ?
Now that you know that CBD and THC both come from the same plant, a certain amount of vagueness may persist as to their legality on our territory. But what's important to understand is that, despite their common origin, these two molecules have very different effects.
Yes, the cultivation and consumption of cannabis is prohibited in France, as THC is the dominant cannabinoid molecule supplied by the cannabis plant. As THC has psychoactive properties, it is considered and classified as a narcotic under French law. But THC and CBD are also found in hemp, a natural plant found in the wild. In this plant, however, the proportions of THC are minute and those of CBD greater. European law stipulates that finished products containing CBD must have a maximum THC concentration of 0.2%. That's why we're finding more and more CBD-derived products on the market: soaps, beauty products, creams, etc.
How to dose it ?
To begin with, we advise you to follow this rule: the concentration of CBD recommended at the start should be equal to the consumer's weight. This is not an absolute rule, of course, but rather a base from which you can adapt your concentration according to your needs.
The CBD dosages given below in no way constitute a prescription, a dosage or a medical treatment. If you wish to use CBD for a particular health condition, we advise you to consult your usual specialists beforehand.
For symptoms that remain relatively mild, such as sleep or mood disorders, high stress, migraines, nausea, etc., a low CBD dosage is sufficient. A CBD concentration of no more than 20mg is considered low.
In the case of more pronounced pathologies (inflammatory pain, arthritis, anxiety, depression), the dosage must be increased to 100mg or even more, depending on the person's weight.
For much more serious illnesses (epilepsy, cancer, etc.), consumers can increase their CBD dosage to 800mg or even higher. However, such dosages remain at the discretion of the final consumer. They are their own responsibility. We advise you to consult your doctor before vaping such dosages.
Use recommandation
CBD e-liquids produce a more pronounced throat hit than normal or nicotined e-liquids. We therefore prefer to vapourize this type of liquid by indirect inhalation, i.e. by passing the vapour through the mouth and then into the lungs (like a conventional cigarette).
As for equipment, since CBD is a very expensive component, we'll also be turning more to pods or all-in-one kits whose power is much lower than the boxes and atomizers we're used to using for nicotined e-liquids. This will not only produce less vapor, but also, and above all, reduce liquid consumption. Generally speaking, we recommend using resistors with a wattage of between 0.6Ω and 1Ω, and with a power rating of around 30W.
Another tip we can give you is to own a pod or atomizer dedicated to CBD consumption. This is for 2 reasons: firstly, to avoid unpleasant surprises due to a CBD residue that could give you effects you don't necessarily want before you start your working day, and secondly, as CBD e-liquids often have a very pronounced taste, this will avoid a mix of flavors that you might not like.
